In 2009, Renault figured among Europe 's three best-performing car manufacturers for average CO2 emissions and set its sights on moving to the top of the order.

Now, with the introduction of Renault Euro 5 engines, even lower carbon emission standards are being achieved and drivers are seeing the road fund licence tumbling on many Renault models.
Road tax on some Renault models has dramatically fallen. It is down to zero on 1.2 petrol models.
The Twingo, Clio, Megane and Scenic have all been updated to Euro 5 engines and more of the range will attract zero road tax – certainly in the first year of registration.
Early next year William A. Lewis Renault expect the whole range to be utilising the Euro 5 as part of Renault’s on-going development of ever-cleaner engines.
Said William A. Lewis Renault sales manager Ian Parkes: “The Euro 5 engine has made an impressive difference. The Megane Hatch dCi 110 FAP now has carbon emissions of just 114 g/km which means the road fund licence is zero rated in the first year and only £30 in second and subsequent years.
“Adjustments are being made across the line to keep the Renault competitive and customers are seeing the benefits of lower emissions. Renault has consistently demonstrated that care for the environment can be compatible with real technical progress at an affordable price,” he added.
